Our History

Park Maitland School was founded in 1968 by Mrs. Nell Cohen as a private school where children could learn, grow, and be treated with kindness and respect. From the very beginning, our school focused on academic excellence and caring for every child. More than 50 years later, these values remain the same.

We believe in helping our students build strong character and leadership skills. Our school feels like a big family, full of warmth and support. We take great pride in seeing our students greet others with politeness and confidence. We love watching them lead school assemblies and make announcements. It brings us joy to see them show kindness and patience—whether helping younger students or showing respect to older adults.

Nothing makes us prouder than seeing our students achieve academic success. We “pop our buttons” every step of their journey, from their early school years to thriving in middle and high school. We don’t just teach. We shape bright, confident, and kind-hearted leaders for the future.

Our Traditions

A Tradition of Excellence, Founded on Wonder.

Since 1968, Park Maitland School has grown from a single building into a vibrant learning community. While our campus has expanded and technology has advanced, our traditions have remained at the heart of our school.

Each year, our students learn important values and build strong character through special events. Our beloved K-5 Mother’s Day Tea and 2nd Grade Across Generations celebration create meaningful moments for families. The Jelly Fudge Friends program connects older and younger students in lasting friendships.

Students explore the world through cultural celebrations like the Festival of Nations, India Fest, and Greek Fest. Their curiosity soars on the Kennedy Space Center field trip. A love for reading grows through Author Teas, Read-Ins, and Letter People parades.

From school plays and beach bonding trips to pumpkin carving contests, every experience at Park Maitland is filled with wonder. These traditions create unforgettable memories that share our students’ learning and bring joy to their families.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Park Maitland School unique compared to other private schools?

More than five decades of educational excellence have shaped Park Maitland School into something rare: a school where deep tradition and forward-thinking pedagogy exist not in tension but in harmony. Our students are challenged to work with rigor, lead with character, and approach the world with genuine curiosity. The wonder-filled learning philosophy at the heart of a Park Maitland education is not a program or an add-on. It is the animating spirit of everything we do, and it produces students who love learning not because they are told to, but because they have experienced what learning at its best actually feels like.

How does Park Maitland School support the development of the whole child?

Academic rigor is paired intentionally with robust arts programming, athletics, and leadership development, because we know that a student who grows only academically has not grown fully. At Park Maitland, students develop as thinkers, collaborators, leaders, and people of character. That comprehensive growth is what prepares them for the demands of education and life ahead.

What types of traditions and special projects are part of the Park Maitland experience?

Our rich calendar of signature experiences, from the beloved K-5 Mother’s Day Tea to the 1st Grade Festival of Nations and the 5th Grade Wax Museum, is designed with purpose: to build character, deepen community, and create the kind of shared memories that bind a school together across generations. These are not simply events. They are the living expression of what Park Maitland believes education should feel like.

How does your school promote diversity and inclusion?

We believe that a community rich in different perspectives, backgrounds, and identities is a more intellectually alive community, and our school is designed to reflect that belief. Students at Park Maitland learn to see difference as an asset, to engage across perspectives with curiosity and respect, and to build the inclusive instincts that will serve them throughout their lives.

What are the benefits of full-day kindergarten at Park Maitland School?

Full-day kindergarten is not simply more time, it is the right amount of time. At Park Maitland, that time is spent with intention: building the academic skills, daily routines, and real-world confidence that make elementary school feel like an opportunity rather than a challenge. Our kindergartners do not simply study entrepreneurship; they visit a local farmers market and engage with it firsthand, discovering that what they learn in the classroom has genuine application in the world beyond it. That is the experience that builds lasting confidence. Explore our elementary curriculum to learn more.

What are the benefits of private school?

Private school gives your child access to the kinds of experiences that a standard education simply does not make room for. At Park Maitland, our 5th graders develop a complete business plan for their own food truck, writing commercials, learning the fundamentals of accounting, and presenting their concepts before real local business owners. Through our Learning Without Walls program, students travel to Colonial Williamsburg, St. Augustine, and New York City, bringing history, culture, and civic life to life in ways no textbook can replicate. At Park Maitland, the education is the experience. Explore opportunities offered Only At our private school.
